I’ve totally been there. And not just once.

After my car accident, I couldn’t even watch dashcam footage without my heart racing. Every time I tried to merge on the freeway, my brain screamed, “We’re gonna crash again!” Even though nothing was happening.

Then there was the stair incident. I was just walking to the office, minding my business, when a man tripped and rolled all the way down. There was blood. I froze. Couldn’t move. Thank goodness someone called an ambulance. But after that? Every time I went down stairs, I had to hold on for dear life, like I was the next one going down.

And don’t even get me started on car rides. If I wasn’t driving, I was convinced something bad would happen. My husband would be at the wheel, and I’d just be sitting there, tensed up like a cat in a bathtub.

But here’s the weird part. This wasn’t just about the accident.

It turns out, a lot of our fear, stress, and anxiety traces waaaay back—like childhood-level back. Something we experienced 5, 10, even 20 years ago can still be stuck inside our body.
